Trees contribute to the quality of life in communities, but also to an individual home. I strive to work with private homeowners to help them understand how the trees on their property provide valuable environmental benefits. By providing them with information obtained through the National Tree Benefit Calculator homeowners can quantify the benefits that their trees provide them with.
While a tree with a healthy green canopy is beautiful, I work with homeowners to help them understand the risks that large trees can pose if they are pruned improperly or will be impacted by construction or if they are diseased or infested with insects.
There is much that can be said about a panoramic vista, but I do not believe that a healthy, viable tree should be sacrificed so a neighbor can see something else that lies beyond the canopy. I work with residents to help them understand that trees are important for their monetary value and the environmental benefits they provide and most importantly, that they do not "block views". Trees contribute to views, they can be part of a view, they can be in a view corridor, but they do not block views. If you can see a tree from your vantage point then you have a view of a tree and all that it has to offer. I work with residents to help achieve a mutual agreement where trees and view corridors can be shared and managed through an understanding of each others needs.
