I have been working in the green industry since 1975 and have focused primarily on arboriculture and urban forestry since 1984. I have been a Certified Arborist since 1988, a Certified Urban Forester since 2004 and a Qualified Tree Risk Assessor since 2011.  I have extensive experience in arboriculture and urban forestry both in the field and management.  I have provided technical expertise for multiple government agencies, school districts, homeowner associations, developers, general contractors, architects, civil engineers law firms, insurance companies and private residences on a variety of urban forestry issues.  

Over my 40+ year career I have had thousands of trees under my care as an urban forester. I have observed and studied the growth habits and characteristics of thousands of trees that have been planted in the right locations and the wrong locations.  I have personally inspected trees that have had their roots cut for infrastructure repairs, suffered storm damage or have been removed or relocated.  I have personally dissected thousands of trees or tree parts.  I have worked with engineers and architects to develop new designs and techniques for better streetscape designs that reduces root infrastructure conflicts.  I have worked with developers and contractors and developed designs and specifications for tree preservation during construction.  I have conducted public outreach meetings on urban forestry issues and worked with individual property owners to resolve property line tree disputes or tree view conflicts.  I have been sharing my knowledge and experience with the tree care profession through educational presentations at seminars and conferences since 1994.

I have served as President of two professional tree care organizations, and in 2011 was appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to serve on the National Urban and Community Forest Advisory Council where I served for 6 years.  I taught at the Municipal Forestry Institute for the Society of Municipal Arborists from 2006 - 2021.  I have been a member of the International Society of Arboriculture since 1984 and am a Life Member of its Western Chapter.  I have been a member of the American Society of Consulting Arborists since 1994.  I have been a member of the Society of Municipal Arborists since 1997 and am a Life Member.  I am also a member of the Society of American Foresters, and Street Tree Seminar, Inc.. 

I have been an expert witness in dozens of legal cases.  Whether it is for a plaintiff or a defendant I will provide unbiased objective testimony about the trees at issue and provide opinions that are based on scientific fact, industry standards and experience in the tree care industry.  I can cite technical resources or provide practical information that I have learned over my 40+ years of professional experience and active involvement in the field of arboriculture and urban forestry. All information I provide in my reports and/or testimony is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and experience.
