Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum)
A slow growing deciduous tree that reaches a mature height of 20 feet with a canopy spread of equal proportion. This is usually used as an understory tree since they perform best in sheltered shady areas or on the north side of buildings. They require regular water and soil with good drainage. This particular tree should be allowed to grow to its full size as it is not likely to outgrow its site. It should be lightly and carefully pruned every 2 – 3 years only to cultivate an interesting and aesthetically pleasing canopy structure.
