Firewheel Tree (Stenocarpus sinuatus)
This is a slow growing evergreen tree that eventually reaches a mature height of 25 – 30 feet with a canopy spread of 15 feet. Their canopies have a light green color with a coarse texture. They are sensitive to poor growing conditions and could take up to 10 years to become established. Once they are established, they can produce small reddish orange blossoms throughout the year but typically will produce the most in the fall. They are a fairly clean tree and create little debris. They should be pruned infrequently on a 7 – 10 year cycle. The less they are pruned, the better the canopy development and flower production.
