Canary Island Pine (Pinus canariensis)
A fast growing and hardy pine that can reach a mature height of 50 – 80 feet with a canopy spread of up to 35 feet. They develop a large trunk with a diameter of 36 – 40 inches with a trunk flare that is even wider at the base. They require a large area otherwise they soon become too large for their grow space and begin to damage surrounding hardscapes and/or nearby buildings. They tolerate root pruning but are subject to failure if they have too many roots removed or if decay sets into the root crown. Younger specimens tolerate relocation and usually adapt to their new surrounding easily.
